An Outside Joke is Laughter Shared

If ever my pen pauses
And Ink adjourns
From complimenting
A blank page-

Hold a kiss for me.

Hold. Lips. There.
Until a shadow grows
And the welcoming darkness
Eclipses sorrow.

And we meet under censored conditions.
Expecting the worst but living the best.

For I have brushed her cuticles like hair,
Embraced the tenderness of simple affection.
For I have touched the furrows of chapped lips,
A cracked foundation upon which eternity glistened.
For I have awakened before and faked slumber
To watch beautiful lungs encourage a beautiful air.

She relinquishes me from the torment of cliché couplets.
From muses that would poison my ink just for a laugh.

But this isn’t about me,
Or the inspiration she adopts
This is about us!

The eternity that forms
When a promise becomes complete.
A trust sustained.
A love avowed.

If ever my pen pauses
And ink adjourns
From complimenting
A blank page-

Finish the lyric
For us.
